Sign a joint appeal for jobs!

During the Day of Action on 12th December members of the public throughout Finland are urged to sign a joint appeal by employees for jobs. Over 22,000 people have already signed the appeal on the Internet. The appeal can be signed on SAK's Finnish website at http://www.sak.fi/ajankohtaista_ mielenilmaus.shtml?3673 (see the English translation below). It will be submitted at a later date to employers' federations and to the Minister of Labour.

12.12. DAY OF ACTION FOR JOBS

Fortunately most employers act responsibly and respect their staff. However, many companies have seen their stock prices soar after announcing massive redundancies during the year, even as owners and senior management have enjoyed generous dividends and handsome pay rises. Too many workplaces have overlooked the need for discussion and genuine co-operation.

People in Finland challenge all employers to display:

- social responsibility,
- a sense of fair play,
- genuine co-operation.

Legislation on co-operation at the workplace must be improved so that employers have a duty to take responsibility for their employees.
